TODAY: Caledonia Mining Corporation’s Blanket Mine handed over several community development projects to the Sitezi Community in Gwanda North, marking a significant milestone in its corporate social responsibility(CSR) initiatives.

The project included the establishment of a state of the art computer laboratory at Sitezi Secondary School with 50 computers, creation of a science laboratory, refurbishment of the school, and installation of interactive screens in all classrooms to enhance digital learning, ultimately improving education and opportunities for the youth in Sitezi.

Blanket Mine’s impactful projects at Sitezi Clinic also included the construction of a waiting mothers’ shelter, complete with furnishings, to provide a comfortable and safe space for expectant mothers. The WASH project has brought clean water from Tuli River to the clinic, schools, and Enqameni Youth Center, addressing a critical need in the community.
Furthermore, a 48kVA solar plant with 129 panels has been installed to provide reliable power to the clinic, ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services.

The mine’s integrated CSR project in Sitezi was launched in 2022 and completed in September this year has brought transformative changes to the community.

The Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Albert Nguluvhe, officiated the handover ceremony, urging the community, pupils, and teachers to strive for excellence at Sitezi Secondary School. He encouraged students to pursue engineering and science programmes at universities, empowering locals to become engineers and scientists who can contribute to the province’s rich mining industry.

Over the years, Caledonia, through Blanket Mine, has invested more than US$10 million in projects aimed at improving health, education, agriculture, and livelihoods across Matabeleland South.
